We don’t need to create more needs. We just need to satisfy them.

Along the course of the development of our capitalistic society, we ended up believing that making money happens through creating new needs. Looking back in history, we could say that it’s true. But is this currently the case?

Let me state the following, and I am not referring to any statistical facts but to common sense and observation: more and more people recover a deep bliss in having much less things they were used to formerly. They appreciate living a peaceful simple life. Comfortable, yes, but simple. People in our occidental societies are concerned about the environment, the water supplies and reserves, pollution, garbage mountains and so on. So they wish to cut down on things that are not necessary. But it’s also the stressful life, the “more and more”-mentality of the last 50 years that awakened a need for tranquilness, peace of mind, simplicity, or just “having less things”.

What is business nowadays then if not creating more needs of consumption?

My statement here is that being aware of people’s struggles, fears and needs in general would show all of us that there is a lot of potential business to do. Professional services of different types, no matter which branch, are needed urgently. We just have to have a look and see how many things and services are not being satisfied. What is more, there are many claims of good professionals, being educators, teachers, IT specialists, builders, technicians or whatever. One of the greatest and warranted businesses is the one which satisfies people and makes them happy, feel good, quiet, and secure.

This article itself is meant as a claim, too. I write this to express my personal wish to find good products like, for instance, environmentally friendly clothes, furniture, cleaning products, etc., as well as professionals which do a good job and really help. I am not looking for people who want to sell me things, and I don’t want to buy them or hire them if they are not offering a well done job that helps me do MY things quietly and lay back with this wonderful feeling that there is someone doing a great job for me, facilitating my life and work, too. My work, which I will always do with the best intention to help and care for people.

Is this really so difficult to understand?

In fact, I am meeting more and more people that would surely corroborate my statements, people that have this same philosophy, and, more importantly, who behave according to these statements. ‘With my work that I offer to other people, I will always do my best’.

Sometimes — and I admit I have difficulties to understand it — I really wonder what is going on in the minds of people that behave contrarily to this. Meaning that there are unfortunately those who just want to do a minimal work without any quality check, but demanding quite an amount of money for a poorly or even badly done work.

Are those types of people just lazy?

I don’t think so at all. Actually, I’m sure some people really make kind of an effort, working many hours, but without a good quality result, for a different reason. My theory is that many people are not aware of the whole picture. Some think that success is being able to make money, no matter how. However, the aim of any work should not be making money, but satisfying needs, fulfilling a mission.

That’s actually how, in the long term, money is earned, and merit is acknowledged.
